MSP430FR2512: MSP-Gang programmer and SWB alternatives?

Part Number: MSP430FR2512
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-GANG, MSP-FET, UNIFLASH

Team,

I just want to check if the MSP-Gang programmer is still what we advise to use for Flash programming in production site.
-Can you confirm it is what we advise to use?
-Are there are other TI provided alternatives?

The use case is to program the MSP430FR2xxx on-chip flash on the production line via the SWB interface (ie JTAG) and automate the operation via scripting.
-Does MSP-Gang programmer supports the SWB interface? If no what alternative do we have that allow scripting too?

Thanks in advance,

A.

  • Hey AnBer,

Yes, we still recommend MSP-Gang for production programming and it does support Spi-by-wire (SBW) and scripting.

    Thanks,

    JD

  • Hi JD, thanks.

Can MSP-FET be used as well for production programming?
Typically can it be used with CCS scripting (see here) to automate the Flashing on customer board via SBW?

Apart of the multiple target handling on MSP-GANG what would be the MSP-GANG advantages over MSP-FET for production programming?

    Thanks in advance.

    A.

  • Hey AnBer,

MSP-FET definitely can be used.  I'm not extremely familiar with CCS Scriptor but it's probably what has been incorporated into UniFlash.  Uniflash can support GUI, command line, or scripting programming interfaces.

I would say the biggest benefit to MSP-GANG is the multiple targets.  It can also work in a stand-alone mode where the firmware image is downloaded to the programmer and no PC is necessary.  It is also possible to customize the .dll so that it can handle things like serialization.  Finally, I believe it's also somewhat quicker when programming, but I'm not positive on this one.

    Thanks,

    JD
