Tool/software: Code Composer Studio
In order to be able to use the EnergyTrace+ functionality I just purchased an MSP-FET Flash emulator (Rev 2.0.6) to debug an MSP-EXP432P401R LaunchPad (Rev 2.1) by using an MSP-FET-432ADPTR (Rev 1.0), however it does not seem to work. I have selected "TI MSP430 USB1" for 'Connection' in the project settings, but I always get the following error message in CCS V. 10.1.0.00010 :
"CORTEX_M4_0: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device"
I am using the 10-pin ribbon cable to connect the MSP-FET432ADPTR to the LP MSP432 In connector. The FET432ADPTR switch S1 is in the position "Vcc Sense" (External Power) as I provide the power for the MCU with the LP usb cable. I removed all the LP J101 jumpers apart from the GND, 5V and 3.3V ones.
I also tried the "MSP-FET HID Cold Boot" procedure described on paragraph 5.6.5.3 at page 20 of SLAU647H. Launching the debug session I have been presented with the expected Recovery confirmation dialog, followed by automatic firmware update window. see pictures below
then the update...
but at this point I still obtain the "unknown device" error:
Installation details:
I have the same error by using the same hardware setup in CCS 9.3
Could you please help me to resolvine this issue ?
Francesco
Why you want to use MSP-FET rather than XDS110?
From my experience, as it shows “Unknown device”, CCS recognizes the MSP-FET, but it can't find the connection of the device.
I try it for you, I meet the same question, please give me some time to consult other colleague.
As I tried for some times, it works! Both with 20 pin on MSP-TS432PZ100 and 10 pin on launchpad.
Can you make sure the device is good, using XDS110 to check?
Hi Eason,
Thanks you for testing my problem and for the quick reply.
I confirm you that with the XDS110 I have no prolems at hall in programming the launchpad.
Francesco
OK, it is quite strange. MSP432 is good. You can connect to the MSP-FET.
Can you check whether there is no voltage gap between GND of MSP-FET and MSP432 GND
Can you use a digital analyser to detect the signal output from the MSPFET. You can connect to the 20-pin. To check when CCS try to connect to MSP432, the MSP-FET works fine.
I will check this as soon ad I come back from leave at the end of August.
Thanks a lot for your very nice support.
I'll keep you poster.
