Looking for a Wiegand protocol solution

Hi team,

For a new Access Control product need to support old readers protocol called Wiegand protocol (implemented with a CPLD in the past).

I'm looking for an MCU that can support it. Can you please send recommendations and share code supporting this protocol?

Hi Eran,

We do not have example MSP430 source code that interfaces to the Wiegand protocol. But you should be able to find on some open source ones like http://en.pudn.com/Download/item/id/1168395.html

You can select the specific device at the product selection tool https://www.ti.com/microcontrollers/msp430-ultra-low-power-mcus/products.html. The exact device will depend on the other GPIO needs, memory needs & other peripherals etc.

We do not have any device that simultaneously supports 5 UART channels. The maximum supported is 4.

By using the product selection tool at the above link returned 91 devices that had 4 UART channels and 2 SPI channels.

The UART channels will be challenging as the 5 channels are a must. How about implementing this function with 2 MSPs?

Hi Eran,

Using 2 MSPs and distributing the UART channels across the 2 MSPs is definitely an option.

Another option is MSP432E devices that support 8 UART channels.
