WEBENCH® Tools/MSP430FR2633: CapTIvate Design Studio fails to open up

Part Number: MSP430FR2633

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hey,

I have begun having issues with the CapTIvate Design Studio. It used to open up just fine and I was able to use the application without any faults, but the application now does not show any window when I try and open up the application. All I see is the following now:

I am wondering if this is an issue seen before and if there is a fix. Is it possible that any hidden files this application uses could have been corrupted and therefore refused to show a window?

I have already tried uninstalled (via C:\ti\msp\CapTIvateDesignCenter_1.83.00.08\Uninstall_CapTIvateDesignCenter.exe) and re-installing the application, but that did not work. Here are the specifications of my system:

  • Windows 10 x64
  • Java Build 1.8.0_261-b12
  • Design Studio Version 1.83.00.08

Has anyone seen this issue where the Design Studio will appear to open, but no GUI actually appears?

Thanks,

Dan

  • Hi Daniel,

Could you try to update the latest version of Java and try again?

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • Hey Johnson,

I just wanted to provide an update on this issue.

I was able to resolve my issue, however, I did a few things on my system to potentially fix the issue:

    1. I first uninstalled the Java Runtime Environment and the Java Software Development Kit (SDK) through "Program and Features."
    2. Then, I reinstalled the latest Java update, which is currently "Version 8 Update 261," the version I listed in the original question.
    3. The Design Center application still did not open and still gave me the same issue. However, I copied the "CapTIvateDesignCenter_1_83_00_08" main document folder to my desktop to essential temporarily stash it away (without deleting it).
    4. I then tried re-opening up the Design Center and it took about 2 minutes to open, but then it finally opened. I noticed it re-generated the "CapTIvateDesignCenter_1_83_00_08" folder in my C:\Users\USERNAME folder.

Essentially, I was using an older Design Center studio project and I think this actually screwed everything up. Even though everything worked at first, the application eventually crapped out and because the Design Center application always tries to open up the last used application, it kept failing for some reason.

I do not believe this was fixed for me just re-installing Java. I believe there was just an issue trying to automatically open up a previous project and essentially deleting (or stashing it somewhere else so you don't lose your projects) the entire Design Center document folder solved the issue.

    Thanks,

    Dan
