MSP430FR5969-SP: RAM ECC

Part Number: MSP430FR5969-SP

Hi there. It seems that this device has error-correcting code FRAM - but does this also apply to the RAM? If not - is there any error detection or correction in the RAM? (Parity, etc.?)

As a follow-up, if the RAM does not support any correction - would it be advisable to avoid using it altogether, and simply use only the FRAM in a design which seeks to minimize the impact of single-bit errors? I can't think of any issues, but wanted to get some outside input in case I'm missing something.

  • Hey Gary,

The RAM does not have ECC or any error correction or parity that I'm aware of.

I don't have much expertise in SEL designs, so I'm not sure how much risk is associated with using RAM.  But, I don't see any issue with only using FRAM if you have enough memory space overall.

    Thanks,

    JD
