CCS/MSP430G2553: Problem uploading code

Hi all,

Recently I came across the 1$ MSP430G2553 based lunchbox kit development board. Since I had all the components laying around , I built one and tried to upload a simple blink CCS code to it. I got an error message like this. Since I am new to CCS, I am not able to figure out what needs to be done to rectify this issue.

This is the circuit diagram that was provided for the 1$ board. I used a CP2102 USB to TTL converter board instead of the mentioned CH340G chip.

I set the 'connection' to UARTConnection in this window since I was not using any kind of external programmer or debugger from TI that were mentioned in the drop down list box.

Please help me solve this problem.

Hi Karthik,

You will need to have a eZ-FET or MSP-FET debugger to program the device. The easiest and lowest cost method is to get a launchpad and use the on board eZ-FET. You can connect the TEST and REST pins from the eZ-FET on the launchpad to your signals on CON2 and program and debug the device.

Also, you should remove the LED that is connected to the TEST pin as this could conflict with programming signals. To match the launchpad and example code below, you could connect the LED to P1.0.

You can start with the simple blink LED code found below to check your hardware.

Thank you for the reply. This was actually for a course which is supported by TI, India. We were given the above details and the circuit diagram by the coordinators, which I guess could have got forwarded from Texas Instruments since the course is entirely about MSP430 MCUs.

As per your advice, I will got with programmers from TI or decide on buying a launchpad.
