Hello,

I am planing to use MSP430 in one of our project. In this project our main target is low power consumption design for that reason we are planing to use this MCU and power consumption requirement is very important for us. In this project, MCU will get data only from one sensor, and transmit to outside to one device continuously or periodically. As I see in datasheet, 2.2 V and 22 micro A seems that enough for this kind of project however I am not %100 sure that voltage and current requirement will be enough or high for getting data from one sensor and transmit to outside. So that I want to take confirmation.

I would be appreciated if someone say something about it. and have you an experience  what will be the power requirement for 1 MHz and 10 Mhz such a this kind of application.

    In these types of applications, much of the time will be spent in low power mode, typically LPM3(~1uA).  You can find the LPM mode current consumption on page 17 of the datasheet.  The active mode current will vary with clock frequency.  See figure 2 and 3 of the datasheet for active mode current consumption.  Depending on how often you are waking up for measurements, you may have an average current consumption that is less than 22uA.

    Thank your for reply. However active mode current will vary with clock frequency, as far as I understood, to work with 22 uA either MCU gather data on standby or work/transmit data without getting data. on the other hand waking current is quite high comparing LPM Mode. Because of I have no experince that how much current need for LPM2, but as I understood,you may say current consumption will be less than  22uA for LPM2.

    You will typically sleep in LPM3 and wake up to active mode periodically to take a measurement.  If you can determine how frequently you will wake up and for about how long to take a measurement and transmit it, you can calculate your estimated average current consumption.  For example, take a look at the attached spreadsheet which you can use to estimate average current consumption with different values.  At 1 measurement per second, assuming 1uA sleep current, 1mA wake current, and wake time of 10ms, the average current consumption is around 11uA.  I hope this helps.Power Calculations.xlsx
