MSP-EXP430G2ET: Not able to program external target MSP430G2553 with launchpad

Part Number: MSP-EXP430G2ET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553

Hi,

Please find the attached connections and error screen pictures,we are trying to use the launchpad for programming external target microcontroller MSP430G2553 but its showing us error as JTAG communication initialisation failed and its not at all getting programmed.Help us to solve this issue as we are stuck in production.

  • The first step would be to check your connections. From the photo, it isn't clear to me that that white connector is actually on the USB side of J101.

I've programmed a number of G2553 devices using a G2 Launchpad (the old one) with FET-Pro430, and I've programmed other MSP430s using the G2ET with CCS, so I believe this is do-able.

Have you succeeded in programming this target board before?

  • As Bruce mentioned, check your connections.

Also, it looks like you have JTAG selected in the FET-Pro430 tool.  Go to Setup-->Connection/Device Reset and change this to Spy bi wire.

  • Thanks Bruce and Eddie

Bruce : Yes previously we used MSP-EXP430G2(old) launchpad and was working fine in production too. All connections are fine and connected on U105 side

Eddie : We have missed the Spy bi wire setting now its working fine.

    Regards,

    Phanendra
