In SLAU208H page 576 and 604 it shows UCSSELx as using SMCLK twice as a clock source.  Is this accurate?

    Yes. On many places where you have x bits but not 2^x options, some options are either reserved or duplicated. It may be that on a different MSP the second option has a different meaning (but not in this family, hence not in this users guide),
