I have a MSP430FR2676 processor that I am going to be using for a design. Can this processor platform support FreeRTOS?

And, if it does, are there any examples out there?

I have used FreeRTOS on other TI parts but not this one.

Hi Dave,

FreeRTOS is not supported on MSP processors.

Of course FreeRTOS will work on the MSP430. I have used it with the FR5969.

I've used FreeRTOS on the FR2476 and the FR2355. I didn't ask them to do a whole lot, but they did just fine.

There's an MSP430 port/demo, but I vaguely recall it was for an F2 series device, so you might have to do some small fiddling.

The FreeRTOS distribution has a CCS project (and a few others) for the F5438 in \Demo\MSP430X_MSP430F5438_CCS

There are porting files in \Source\portable\CCS\MSP430X

Just judging from the last-change dates it looks like I messed with port.c, app-hooks.c and FreeRTOSConfig.h. I don't think I made many actual code changes, I just had to figure out which ones to make. Picking the right timer (I ended up using the RTC) is probably the big item. [Hint: Start with configTICK_VECTOR and work outward.]

A Google for "github freertos msp430" turned up some interesting-looking items.

I rather like FreeRTOS, since it's very lightweight and is available on pretty much every MCU.

It has been a while since I dove into FreeRTOS but I did make some notes. I had to alter port.c because of changes to gcc and to support pushm/popm in the 16 bit forms.

Then I started with the usual LED blinker. Once that was working I knew that FreeRTOS was working and that I had something to build on.
