MSP430F5528: Software/Register Examples for USB in a system W/O 5VDC.. W/ VUSB powered from external 3.3VDC..

Part Number: MSP430F5528

Hi Team '430,

Are there any Software Examples (proper device/register setup, etc) for using the F5528/USB in a system W/O 5VDC.. W/ VUSB powered from an external 3.3VDC supply?

Thanks, Merril

  • There is nothing "special" related to using 5528 USB with external 3.3V supply. I think that software part is covered by TI USB device stack. There is GUI for code setup and maybe there is option for external / internal reg selection.

For hardware part, there is 5529 LP, master FET or target part, whatever, powered by 3.3V dedicated (not internal) regulator.

  • Hi Zrno,

Well, for example.. if an external 3.3VDC is used/connected to the VUSB pin, the internal 3.3VDC LDO must be disabled (via register bit VUSB_EN).  That is kind of "special" and different.

So, thanks, but I'd like to hear from a TI'er (on the MSP430 team) WRT all the required settings hardware/software for using an externally supplied 3.3VDC VUSB.. and whether we have a code example available for this.

    Thanks, Merril

  • Hi

I think  VUSBEN and SLDOAON bit be cleared and SLDOEN set in software should be ok.
