MSP430FR6989: Using ESITEST to output DAC for audio signal

Part Number: MSP430FR6989

I have been digging through the Family Users Guide and the Datasheet, but I am still unable to find how to output the DAC value from one of the ESIDAC registers to one of the ESITEST outputs. My plan is to output an audio signal from the DAC . Looking at Figure 28-2 in the Family Users Guide it appears that I can output the DAC value through ESITEST1. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how the ESI works, but I cannot find a description of how to achieve this.

What ESI registers do I need to configure in order to achieve this?

  • Hi Matthew,

The figure 28-2 in the family user guide is not talking about ESI. The figure 37-2 does show that you can output the 8MSB DAC data to the ESITEST1 pin.

Based on the datasheet table 6-37, set P9SEL1.1 as 1 and P9SEL0.1 as 0 then you should get output signal.

By the way, why use the FR6989 for this application? 8 bits DAC output seems not enough for an audio output.

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao

  • Thank you, I read more in the user guide and found what I needed.

FR6989 is the only MSP I have so I'm trying to make it work. I believe 8 DAC output should be enough for my application.

    Thanks again
