EVM430-FR6043: How to use w/ 40kHz transducers....

Part Number: EVM430-FR6043
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000

Just got an EVM430-FR6043 demo board and have installed the GUI software.     It seems that the lower limit for the transducer frequency in the UI is 80kHz.     I'd like to use 40kHz transducers.     What hardware/software modifications are required to handle 20KHz - 40KHz transducers.

Thanks

Jim

  • Hi Jim,

The Programmable Pulse Generator on this device can only excite down to 133kHz.  You might find our TDC products(ie. TDC1000) a better match for low frequency transducers.

  • Hi Leo,

Thanks for pointing this out.    Since the USS Design Center allows the frequency to be set as low as 80KHz I was thinking that there might be some further adjustability ..... possibly by replacing the Y3 oscillator with a 4MHz part and making further modifications to the HSPLL config. registers.     Does the 133kHz limit derived from some internal limitation of the HSPLL to reduce the multiplication factor.

The TDC1000 part looks attractive from a cost perspective although not quite as fancy as the FR6043's USS subsystem.     I will look at it in more detail.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

The TDC1000 is a better fit for low frequency applications.  The 80kHz specification in the Design Center Documentation is an error. (it should be 133kHz).
