Hi,

we are looking to use bq20z95 fuel gauge in one of our applications. We will be using MSP430F2232 as host controller.

So, where can i find the SMBus sample programs?

Help me in finding all application notes and SMBus sample programs.

The SMBus is basically an I2C bus. The I2C is supported in hardware by the 2232s USCI module. The SMbus, however, has some 'extensions' which are not supported. If you don't need/use them, you can go well with the internal I2C hardware. If you need them (such as device address evaluation), you'll have to do it manually with bit-banging the I2C lines like normal I/O lines.

There are several threads about I2C programming in the bord and some deal with SMBus too.

Please refer to the following Application Report (SLAA476) that describes a Wide-Input Voltage Smart-Battery Charger using the MSP430, bq fuel gauge and TPS40K DC/DC Power Controllers: http://focus.ti.com/mcu/docs/litabsmultiplefilelist.tsp?sectionId=96&tabId=1502&literatureNumber=slaa476&docCategoryId=1&familyId=342.

The described application uses the MSP430F5510 as the host MCU and bq20z90 as the fuel gauge. While there are some differences between the 2xx and the 5xx family of MSP430, it should be straightforward to port the code over. I have also tested this reference design with other SMBus fuel gauges such as bq20z75, bq20z80, etc.
