MSP430FR6989: ESI without external clock.

Dear MSP Team,

My customer is thinking on using the MSP430FR6989 for a mechanical rotary water meter digitalization thanks to the ESI.

In order to minimize the number of components, we wonder if the MSP430FR69x family can work with the ESI at a sampling rate of 30Hz without external clock, making use of the Very-Low-Power Low-Frequency Oscillator (VLO).

Hi Juan,

As tabulated in Table 5-7. Internal Very-Low-Power Low-Frequency Oscillator (VLO) in the device datasheet (www.ti.com/.../msp430fr6989), the VLO varies over temperature. So it depends on the specification of the 30 Hz sampling rate. If those variations of VLO over temperature are acceptable, you should be able to use it instead of an external clock source.
