MSP430FR6047: direct UART communication to the chip

Hi,

I think I sent ASCII data with termite. But this is just a question of reading the answer, isn't it? Data is always sent in hex...

This is what I get when I change the view settings in termite to hex:

I now tried to send data via CCS but nothing happened when I typed in the Toggle command input field of its terminal. I tried several configurations of encoding but I am not shure, which one is right.

Is this method for using the onboard emulator or for connecting the MSP directly to the computer?

How did you connect "directly to the device"? If you connected the MCU directly to a PC serial port, the RS-232 signals might have damaged the MCU.

The echo example should just work. The main thing is to make sure that you have the baud rate set correctly.

Connecting directly: I disconnected the jumpers from the main board of the EVM430-FR6047 to the onboard emulator. Than I changed the Power supply source to 'external' and connected the jumpers J33 with ground and external source of 3V. Then I connected the rx and tx of my USB-Adapter to RXD and TXD. Sorry, I didn't manage to insert a photo now.

But why do I always get the same echo, evn when I give different input?

Generally the debugger chip (not an "emulator") has 2 com ports: one for the debugger and one for the back channel UART. Do you have the wrong one selected?

I just checked, and you are using the ultra sonic evaluation board. This might behave differently than a regular launchpad. TI might have to chime in.

You are right. I want to use the UART communication for flowmetering. My college designed a board with the MSP430FR6047 that should send the final flow rate to a computer via UART. That is why I need a direct working connection to the chip.

So what is the right connection to the chip for UART communication and how can I program it?
I thought the examples in CCS would be helpful for my case...

Is there somewhere a good explanation of how I can customize the ultrasonic system that the program sends the final calculated flow rate values via UART to a computer (hardware connections and software advise)? If not, I would need a FAE for it. My supervisor is getting impatient and I don't want the project to be cancelled.

I found a cable for 3.3V use but maybe the chip got damaged. We have a SMD rework station so it would be great to get a new chip for fast progress. Please pm me for the adress of the samples to send for.

As near as I can tell from the schematics, the TXD/RXD pins on J3 connect to UCA1, but example msp430fr60x7_euscia0_uart_01.c uses UCA0, so it was something else sending data back. [Ref EVM schematics  (SLAR138B).]

Are you fairly certain your program downloaded successfully?

I dowloaded all three versions of the UART test programs and they all behave the same way. msp430fr60x7_eusci_uart_standard_transceiver.c, msp430fr60x7_euscia0_uart_01.c and msp430fr60x7_euscia0_uart_02.c

So if the download was not successful, all three would be damaged.

Thank you for this information. I got some more time from my supervisor to work on my project now.

For the UART communication I will open a related case for getting an example code adapted for my questions. And for clearer structure of questions and answers in the cases.
