MSP430F5529: Enter BSL mode with MSP430F5529IPNR

Hi Team,

Just want to check with you what could go wrong when brand new device 5529 can't get into BSL mode. I frequently get 1 out of 40 boards is unable to get into BSL mode to program the firmware. Please advise where it could be the issue. Can the crystal for the reference clock goes bad? Appreciated if you can provide some guidance. Thank you.

Hi Aaron

First how do you trigger the BSL, software or hardware?

What's your VCC voltage?

Do you use internal 3.3v LDO or external LDO to power the VCC?

Hi Gary,

I used the external LDO to power the 3.3V. I triggered the BSL mode using MSP430 USB Firmware Upgrade tool to flash the firmware by pressing the button while plugging the mini USB cable. Note that this is brand new device MSP430. I embedded the 5529 with my EVM, but sometimes there is one or two boards failed to program the firmware.

You mean using hardware invoke to make the device go into USB BSL, right?

For hardware invoke you should pull up PUR pin when you plugin the USB to PC. After you plugin the device to PC, dose the PC distinguish the USB device?
