EVM430-F6779: Fatal error: Failed to re-initialize Session aborted!

Hi,

We purchased the product EVM430-F6779 and we are trying to load the example code as stated at slaa577 application note. However, when clicking on "Download and Debug" the message "Fatal error: Failed to re-initialize Session aborted!" appears. We are using a USB to RS232 converter to connect the board to the PC, is this hardware appropiate or we need to buy a debugger board to program the smartmeter?

We wanted to load the example code because calibrate.exe does not work for us, it shows a red button instead of a green button, which means something is not correct. Could you please give us some advice?

We use IAR IDE for MSP430 version 7.21.1. The MCU is MSP430F6779.

Do we need to purchase MSP-FET (https://www.ti.com/tool/MSP-FET) to load the code? We thought the code was already pre-loaded.

Hi Mario,

Yes, you will need an MSP-FET to program the MSP via the JTAG connector on the EVM.

Thank you for your answer. The example code needs to be uploaded to test it then, right? Could you confirm this please?

We thought that the example code came already uploaded to MSP by TI after purchase (just plug & play).

Hi Mario,

I know that for many of our EVMs, the software has to be updated to ensure that the communication with the GUI is in sync with the latest version. I would recommend updating the firmware to the latest version to ensure it will work properly with the latest version of the GUI.

Hi Leonardo,

Finally, we could check that the firmware was preloaded, so there was no need to purchase MSP-FET for testing the example program. We followed the instructions at section 6.3 of slaa577g and, specially, this tutorial.
