MSP430F5529 LaunchPad - CCS Error - Error initializing emulator: Interface Communication error

Hi experts,

I'm new to MSP430 development and have the Problem, that one of five MSP430F5529LP are not working any longer after attempting to debug the board with the latest CCS.

The following procedure worked for the first 4 boards, but unfortunately not for the fifth...

- On first debugging attempt CCS made a firmware update of the board

- CCS downloaded the program

- Tests with the usb cdc communication program succeeded

Only with the last (fifth) board the Firmware update failed somewhere in the middle and since, all communication through "MSP Debug Interface" is not possible for this board anymore.

I tried to start the board with the BSL but every attempt to communicate with the board failed (CCS, Elprotronic FET-Pro430, etc.)

Has anyone any experience on this subject?

Any idea whether it can be solved?

Do I need a new board?

    Rolf,

    The problem does not have to do with your MSP430F5529 device but rather the MSP430F5528 used in the eZ-FET lite section of your LaunchPad. It sounds like something erraneous happened when CCS tried to update the eZ-FET lite firmware and it was unable to recover to its initial condition, resulting in a locked-out state.

    My first recommendation is to try downloading a program using Energia and see if the Energia IDE can somehow recover and upgrade the eZ-FET lite firmware. If this doesn't work you might want to try re-programming the F5528 using a MSP-FET tool and the test points TP104-TP110 lined across the top of the LaunchPad. The necessary software can be downloaded from this web page: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

    Just in case someone ran into the same issue, Before spending money to buy MSP-FET (good to have though)  try this first:

       1. delete the drivers (MSP Debug Interface and MSP Application UART1)

        2. then restart CCS, and replug in your MSP430F5529,

       3. New drivers will be installed and it will prompt you to update the firmware for the debugger.

    It worked for me, so it's worth the try before doing something more complicated.
