eZ430-Chronos-868, USB RF access point does not start in Windows 10

P/N: eZ430-Chronos-868

Host OS: Windows 10, 64-bit

Problem: When I insert the USB dongle (white), the LED lights for a moment and turns off and the status in Control Center always is "Access Point is off". When the dongle is present, I see an USB COM3 port in the Ports section of device manager.

I tried installing the Control Center with and without my antivirus & ZoneAlarm firewall, both the times software and drivers installation was successful, but the problem persists.

I have also tried disabling the Windows device drivers verification as suggested by some in the forums, but that too didn't help.

It's been more than a week since I received the kit but I haven't been able to make any progress so far.

Please can anyone help. Thank you.

  • Can you please confirm that you've attempted the fixes from the following posts?

    e2e.ti.com/.../464433
    e2e.ti.com/.../249150
    e2e.ti.com/.../492575
    e2e.ti.com/.../248031

Please further detail how the eZ430-Chronos is enumerating on your PC's Device Manager. I would also try using a USB 2.0 port instead of 3.0.

    Ryan
  • Ryan,

Yes I attempted all those fixes but nothing worked. I tried using both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports.

    Thanks.

  • Please provide a screenshot of device enumeration on the Device Manager. Do you have any other computers you can try using the eZ430-Chronos on to confirm that it is not a hardware issue?

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • After a bit of trial & error, I solved the problem finally. Now, the access point starts and I'm able to connect with the watch. Thanks.
  • I'm glad to hear that you are now operating properly. If possible, please post your solution so that those with a similar issue might be able to fix their problem.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • This is what I did:

    1. In the Device Manager, right click on USB COM3 and select Update Driver Software
    2. Click on Browse my computer...
    3. Select the folder where the driver files are located, for eg C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\eZ430-Chronos\Driver
    4. Click on Let me pick from a list...
    5. Click on Have Disk
    6. Click on Browse, go to the drivers folder, select the 'white' .INF file and click on Open
    7. Under Model, select eZ430-ChronosAP and click Next (selecting the other one is also fine)
    8. Click Yes if Windows shows a warning message
    9. The driver gets installed successfully and you should see something like eZ430-ChronosAP (COM3) under Ports in the Device Manager
    10. Start the Control Center and start the access point, you should now be able to communicate with the watch

(Just mentioning, I use old-school Windows XP style classic theme, so have no idea how the Control Panel, Device Manager, etc look in native Windows 10 theme.)
    I hope this helps. Thanks.
