4-wire JTAG with the MSP430F1612

Hey Folks,

i have an probably usual problem to debugg my MSP430F1612 MCU with the 4-Wire JTAG configuration with CCS. I  Chose to power the MSP over the Debugger, with the pullup resistor R1 = 4.7k and the capacito C1= 2.2nF. CCS Error massage is" Error connecting to taget: Unknown Device". I cant figure out whats the problem is, and really hope somebody can help.

    Hey Raphael,

    It does not seem like you are using a typical 14-pin JTAG connector, please make sure you are using the same FET connections as Figure 2-1 of the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide (SLAU278): www.ti.com/.../slau278y.pdf

    What type of FET tool are you using? Make sure that all of your JTAG connections are as short as allowable, that Vcc is being steadily supplied by the FET, and that the RST line is pulled up. Please also provide a board layout image and oscilloscope screenshots of the JTAG communication if possible.

    thank you so much for your reply. I'm using a connector-Adapter TC2050  from Tag-Connect, because space is of the assence in my project. As for the Debugger, i'm using the MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool. For now, i can't provide an oscillosope screenshoot  but i'll try to do that as soon as possible.

    Please have a look at the layout and tell me if you see somthing odd. The red colored line is Vcc, blue RST

    I don't initially see anything out of the ordinary (so long as the connector is oriented properly) but it is hard to tell, I've never used the TC2050 connector before. I'll be curious to see what information we can gather from the oscilloscope screenshots.

    I solved it. The problem was that i had JTAG and MCU on diffrent GND potential and therefor a inefficient voltage supply.
    Thank you again Ryan for your quick response and willingness to help.
