MSP430FR5994: Interfacing the Pervasive EPD Extension kit with the MSP430FR5994

Part Number: MSP430FR5994
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529

Hi,

I have a few questions with interfacing the Pervasive EPD (E-paper) Extension EXT2 module with the MSP430FR5994 launchpad:

* Pervasive EPD Extension module (https://e2e.ti.com/blogs_/archives/b/launchyourdesign/archive/2016/09/30/meet-the-new-e-paper-extension-kit-gen-2-by-pervasive-displays)

* Is the above EPD EXT2 module compatible with the MSP430FR5994 launchpad ? (I cannot find the launchpad in the TI BoosterPack Checker tool online)

* It says the extension module has 8Mbit onboard flash. Can we bypass this / not use this flash memory when displaying the images on the EPD and use the built-in MCU FRAM instead ?

* Does anyone know if the firmware provided with the TI Pervasive EPD Ext2 module is compatible with the MSP430FR5994 launchpad ?

thank you !

1. MSP-EXP432P401R Launchpad

2. EPD Extension Kit Gen 2 (EXT2) http://www.pervasivedisplays.com/kits/ext2_kit

3. Epaper Display Library for Code Composer Studio: http://www.pervasivedisplays.com/download_forms/dl_ext2

I am trying to compile the project by importing in CCS, either its not compiling, but failing everytime.

  • MPS launchpad hardware interface (20pin and 40pin definition) is compatible.
On the firmware supporting FR5994. it is high commanded to contact with Pervasive display sides.
from my sides, I think the firmware porting is needed in register level from MSP430F5529 to FR5994.
The built-in MCU FRAM can be used as the memory such as the extension flash or EEPROM. Please check if the memory sides is enough for your application
  • Thanks Xiaodong.

    - Are there anyone in the TI team or outside of TI integrated the EPD extension kit with any of the FRAM MSP430 launchpad boards ?

    - If the MCU memory (SRAM/FRAM) is used instead of the Extension board's memory, then does the Extension board APIs need to be adapted accordingly ?

    thanks

Extension board APIs is not needed in case of the embedded FRAM.
the embedded FRAM can be used just like the internal SRAM
