Hi, we have designed and produce a pcb board for DRV8308 under respect to reference design of DRV8308 from TI
We use LTC6992 for PWM generation. But the BLDC dont wamt turn.
It is possible control the DRV8308 without SPI Interface? So a standalone mode?
We want power up the circuit and give EN=1 RESET=0 DIR=0 25kHz 50% Duty cycle PWM and wait, that Motor turns
Or we need this interface?
Hello Hakan,
The DRV8308 does not have non-volatile memory, which means every time it powers down or goes into sleep mode, the register settings are reset. Since the speed loop and device configuration are done over SPI, these settings are required to get the motor spinning properly.
The DRV8308 can be used with an external serial EEPROM instead of requiring a separate MCU to configure these settings. Please see section 7.4.3 External EEPROM Mode in the datasheet for more details.
For a more simple sensored control solution, we do recommend DRV8306 or MCT8316Z which are sensored trap control and do not have a speed loop integrated. These devices do not have any required SPI settings to get the motor spinning.
Thanks,
Matt
