BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH: Config. BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH 1xPWM Control

Part Number: BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8323,

Hello Sir/Ms.

My client uses a relatively simple MCU to drive the motor. Their currently solution is A4915.

The customer's MCU does not output a 6-step square wave, only 1 PWM output. We recommend customers to refer to DRV8323. After reading, our customers felt that the DR8323 still needs a square wave signal. How to set BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH as 1PWM input? What kind of signal does the 1xPWM control signal of DRV8323 need?

Best Regards,

Kami Huang

  • Hi Kami,

Please follow the EVM User's guide: www.ti.com/.../slvub01

You'll need to populate R36, R37, and R38 with 0-ohm resistors (or solder bridge the pads).

If using the Hardware version (-RH variant), then the MODE pin needs to be configured to Hi-Z (1x PWM mode), you can do this by depopulating R12/R23 as shown below:

Once you power the device, the device powers in 1x PWM mode. Connect the motor outputs to the J5 connector (MOTA/MOTB/MOTC), and connect the Hall sensors to the J2 connector J2 header as shown below.

Once the device is powered on, the device will be in 1x PWM mode, which requires a PWM signal applied to INHA to commutate the motor. The motor will commutate at the PWM frequency and duty cycle of the applied PWM signal. You can apply this PWM in one of two ways, with the GUI or with a function generator. To utilize it with the GUI, you'll need to select PWM mode to 1x PWM mode and the MCU will apply the PWM to INHA.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • Hello Aaron,

thanks for your kindly help. My customer will apply EVM and BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH and test it.
