DRV10983EVM: Problem with software

Part Number: DRV10983EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, DRV10983, DRV10987

Hello team,

I'm posting on behalf of my customer:

The problem I have is that when I connect the computer to USB2ANY, and USB2ANY to the DRV10983EVM driver, I get an error that says the following:

DRV10983 USB2ANY.lvclass:Write Register.vi<ERR>
Register writing not successful! Please restart the GUI and try again

Already check e2e link:https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers/f/motor-drivers-forum/725931/drv10983-drv10983_usb2any--register-writing-error

and followed all the steps. I have obtained the voltages that were indicated on the pins in the guide except on the VREG pin, which I have obtained a voltage of 3.4V and not 5V as marked in the guide.
In addition, I have experienced this new failure:

It does not detect my DRV10983EVM hardware. I have connected it to the laptop with USB2ANY, to a 24V supply and to a BLDC motor.

How can I fix it?

Thank you very much in advance, best regards.

Regards,

Renan

  • Hi Renan,

Some of our team members are current out on business travel - so we may need a few more days than usual to respond to this question.

  • Hi Renan,

Before we get into troubleshooting, I first want to acknowledge some basic checks to ensure everything is working as expected. Assuming you are using an EVM:

    1. When powering the EVM and Device with a VCC > 6.2V and VCC < 28V, is VREG = 5V, and V1P8 = 1.8V?
    2. If J2 is configured to use the potentiometer (R2), does the device try to start spinning a motor when it is turned clockwise?
    3. Do you connect the USB2ANY after the device is powered up and observe that the yellow light on the USB2ANY is not flashing (i.e. steadily on)?
    4. Are the markings or text on the top of IC show DRV10987?
    5. When opening the GUI, is the DRV10987 option selected in the drop down?
    6. After hitting continue on this error message, are you able to click the Enable Configuration Button and have the button turn green without any error? Can you click the manual refresh button without triggering any errors?
    7. Did you close the GUI and start the program in administrative mode to ensure there are no permission errors with the GUI accessing the LabView Runtime program?

    8. Finally, make sure you installed labview 2014. Link given below

  • Hello Vishnu,

Thank you for this response. My customer is doing the testing and we will update this thread soonest I got the result from them.

  • Hello Vishnu,

Good day I apologize for the delay in response, my customer just got back in the office. Please see the result of their testing below:

    I am answering in order:

    1. When powering the EVM and Device with a VCC > 6.2V and VCC < 28V, is VREG = 5V, and V1P8 = 1.8V?  The current value was 0.02A
    2. If J2 is configured to use the potentiometer (R2), does the device try to start spinning a motor when it is turned clockwise?  Yes, the device tries to start spinning but it never finally does.
    3. Do you connect the USB2ANY after the device is powered up and observe that the yellow light on the USB2ANY is not flashing (i.e. steadily on)? The USB2ANY light is steadily ON. I resolved the "HARDWARE NOT CONNECTED" error.
    4. Are the markings or text on the top of IC show DRV10987? No, my model is DRV10983EVM
    5. When opening the GUI, is the DRV10987 option selected in the drop down? How can I see that?
    6. After hitting continue on this error message, are you able to click the Enable Configuration Button and have the button turn green without any error? Can you click the manual refresh button without triggering any errors? Yes,  the "HARDWARE NOT CONNECTED" error has been solved.
    7. Did you close the GUI and start the program in administrative mode to ensure there are no permission errors with the GUI accessing the LabView Runtime program? Yes, There are no permission errors
    8. Finally, make sure you installed labview 2014. Link given below ? Yes, I have the 2014 labview version installed.

Thank you very much. Looking forward to your response.
    Regards,
    Renan
  • Renan,

Did you select DRV10983 when you open the GUI?

Can you read the voltage on VREG, V3P3, V1P8 pins?

    Regards,

    Vishnu

  • Hello Vishnu,

Please see my customer response below:

Yes, I always select the DRV10983. I find another problem when connecting the DRV 10983 to 24V. The voltage falls to 3.4V. I think the controller may be broken.
Looking forward to your reply. Best wishes.
    Regards,
    Renan
  • Renan,

If the voltage on VCC drops to 3.4V then the device is most likely damaged.

    Vishnu
