DRV8812: External Clamping diode is required for DRV8812 to drive DC Motor?

Hi,

To drive DC motor with 24V and nominal current is 600mA (1.2 A peak), we have selected DRV8812 as alternate part for L293D (from ST).

As L293D internal clamping diode, which is not available in DRV8812.

Are we suppose to use external clamping diode along with DRV8812 to drive DC motor?

If any please suggest diode.

Hey Rahul,

Thank you for your question.

With DRV8812, you wouldn't need to add any external diodes. Please refer to section 8.2 of the datasheet to see typical application. Furthermore it might be beneficial to consult our EVM schematic files (found under design files) to help aid your new design.
