DRV8825: Chopping Current

Part Number: DRV8825

Hi Team,

Based on the datasheet, when TI DRV8825 Vref (on pin 12 and pin 13) is set to 1.03V, the calculated chopping current is 2.06A.

(datasheet page 12)

* Note : our design R.sense = 100mΩ.

** Note : refer to attachment for my calculation.

However, customer only measured 1.28A (rms).

If manually measured 4A (peak-to-peak) = 1.41A (rms). Still not near 2A.

Please see attached calculation:calc - TI - DRV8825.xlsx

Could you please check if the fomula is correct or is there anything my customer is missing out?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Ernest

  • Hi Ernest,

    The calculation is correct. I just think the customer is misunderstanding the I_CHOP current. This is the full-scale current (100%) at the highest step. In this case this will be 2.06A (4.12A peak-to-peak) which matches the measurement on the scope.
