  • Hi Kura,

Thank you for posting to the Motor Driver's forum!

I will aim to provide feedback on the questions in the attached PPT that you have shared by the middle of next week.

    Thank you for your reply.

They are using this part in both motor mode and generator mode.

Fail happens in only generator mode.

    Regards,

    Kura

  • Hi Kura,

Just to provide some quick feedback, some things to consider when operating in generator mode is that when operating as a generator, the motor takes mechanical torque and converts it back to electrical energy. As a result, the motor may cause an increase in supply voltage which could in turn result in an overvoltage event.

For more information about this and how to mitigate it, please refer to the following FAQ: [FAQ] How to *not* damage your motor drive system from overvoltage.

  • Hi Kura,

Please let us know if you require further assistance on this debug.

If not, please help mark thread as resolved. Thanks

    Thank you for your reply.

My colleague has contacted Angelica-san about this matter.
But he hasn't gotten an answer yet.

Can you give us answer for attached 2questions.0247.DRV8350S.pptx

    regards,

    Kura

  • Hi Kura-san,

I am currently looking into the 2 questions being asked and aim to provide a response by the end of Tuesday, next week.

In the meantime, for question 1, you mention that a voltage across VDRAIN and GND is observed when the rotation speed is increased. Would you be able to provide a waveform showing this?

    Best,

    ~Alicia

  • Alicia-san

    Thank you for your reply.

    About waveform

Please see attached file Page2. As the rotation speed increases, V_DRAIN voltage  increases.

.We don't have actual rotation speed information.

    regards,

    Kura

  • Hi Kura-san,

Thank you for the clarification. I will aim to provide a response by the end of Tuesday.

  • Hi Kura-san,

Thank you for your patience, please see my feedback below:

Q1) When UVW is connected to 3Phase magnetic ACG and they increase the rotation speed, They see a voltage across VDRAIN-GND is this the correct behavior?

    • The voltage that they are seeing across VDRAIN-GND is expected behavior. The reason why is that when the motor is getting spun by hand, it generates Back-EMF voltage that which then gets fed into VDRAIN/VM.

Q2) They are considering connecting the circuit shown in Fig. 2 to the circuit shown in Fig. 1 ... Is there any problem with this usage?

    • The proposed circuitry should be okay. The thing to be careful of would be ensuring that you are not slewing VDRAIN too quickly and violating the Abs Max spec'd in the datasheet as this could damage the device.

    Best,

    ~Alicia
