DRV8872: Caps in OUTx pin

Part Number: DRV8872

Dear Expert,

Any risks to tie 1uF caps from OUTx pin to GND, respectively?

  • Hello Dylan,

Thank you for posting to the Motor Drives E2E forum.

  • Hello Dylan,

The main concern is OCP due to high inrush current during motor start-up. The capacitor will require high current to charge up causing excess current consumption and eventually OCP if the current is high enough. If this current surpasses 6.4A (max rating) this will cause an OCP fault. If the output current exceeds the OCP threshold I_OCP for longer than t_OCP, all FETs in the H-bridge are disabled for a duration of tRETRY. After that, the H-bridge re-enables according to the state of the INx pins.
