DRV8424: Dev8424 control

Part Number: DRV8424
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8462,

Hi Sir,

My customer is testing Drv8424 and drv8462 evm by using their ASIC  with nSLEEPENABLEDIRSTEPM1M0 and VREF. Testing DRV8462 evm is ok, but controlling DRV8424 evm has problem: can’t drive motor driver, unable control but can feel motor with little vibration. Is there any suggestion for their reference to check their control signal? (Using onboard control/GUI is ok, and they don’t control decay signal). Thanks for your kindly help.

Beat regards,

Gary Teng

  • Hi Gary,

The EVM should work just fine out of the box. Can you please confirm if the GUI is able to connect to the EVM successfully? What is the VREF / IFS setting? This voltage can be measured on the header as well. As well as all other signals can be measured on the row header located in the middle of the EVM. What version of the GUI was used, was it cloud based or desktop app?

  • Hi Murugavel,

Using GUI is ok to control DRV8424EVM. I'll ask customer to provide relavie waveform for your reference. Thanks.

BTW, is there any difference in controlling DRV8424 and DRV8462?

    Regards,

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

The DRV8462 has a lot more features compared to the DRV8424EVM. While the basic stepper motor control portion of the GUI would be similar the DRV8462 has several advanced features. Please refer to the EVM User's Guide as well as device datasheets. Thanks.
