MCT8329A: Information on how many consecutive detections will result in a retry in a situation where nfaults are output continuously at CBC limit

Hi,

It is related to the question below.
https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers/f/motor-drivers-forum/1251746/mct8329a-problem-with-multiple-align-in-start-up/4806944# 4806944

Is there any information on how many consecutive detections will result in a retry in a situation where nfaults are output continuously at CBC limit?

Thanks,

Conor

  • HI Conor,

Please refer to section 7.3.20.8 of the datasheet for more information on the CBC limit response as this depends on the configuration selected.

In general upon first detection of the motor current exceeding the CBC limit threshold the device can automatically recover depending on the CBC limit mode selected. This can be recovery on the next PWM cycle, once the measured current goes below the CBC limit threshold, or recovery after a set number of PWM cycles. After the recovery upon the first detection of the motor current exceeding the CBC limit threshold the device will preform the same action as it had before.

    Regards,

    Joshua

  • Hi Joshua,

Thank you for your reply. I already know the above answer from the datasheet. I have already confirmed on the evaluation board that it will Retry if it detects a Fault with CBC limit only, I would like to know more details as the conditions for retry are not clear from the datasheet.

    Thanks,

    Conor

  • Hi Conor,

I will aim to get back to you by Wednesday at the latest.

    Joshua

  • Hi Conor,

Can you provide the value of CBC_ILIMIT_MODE you have set?

Also, can you please provide a labeled capture showing a retry and further describe a retry so I can make sure we talking about the same thing?

    Regards,

    Joshua
