BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH: Chip generates heat when running under load

Hi Team,

The DRV8323RH motor driver chip is used. When the motor continues to operate with a load power of 180W, the temperature of the DRV8323RH chip rises very quickly. The temperature reaches about 80 degrees in about 10 minutes, and then stabilizes when the temperature reaches 103 degrees. Why does the temperature of the DRV8323RH chip behave like this during operation? The IDRIVE setting is 570/1140 mA, and the VDS setting is 0.26 V.

Hey Annie.,

Does the device get damaged during this? Is nFault tripping? Is there excessive load on the motor?

Hi Akshay,

The device does not get damaged, the nFault does not trip, and it is not excessive load on the motor.

The system is running normally. In the process from system startup to the driver board reaching temperature equilibrium, the temperature of the DRV8323RH motor driver chip is always higher than the temperature of the power supply electrolytic capacitor and MOS tube.

Hey Annie,

Were you able to look at the FAQ post section on excessive heating? This has some useful tips. I suggest calculating your slew rate, (please let me know your MOSFET QGD)

What is the current draw on the power supply to the driver? What is the motor current?
