DRV8706S-Q1EVM: Unable to connect GUI to EVM

Hi. I tried to connect DRV8706S-Q1EVM(MD023B) to the GUI but it is not working. Board is powered with 12V and status LED is flashing(LED D5 is flashing, LED D4 is on, LED D3 is on.). GUI is also automatically trying to connect after USB plug in --> Result: Hardware not connected.

I followed the guidance in this link but it didn't work. e2e.ti.com/.../drv8706s-q1evm-unable-to-connect-gui-to-eval-board

I tried the both cloud-based GUI version 0.5.5 and 1.2.2 as well as downloaded GUI version 0.5.5.

I'm sure to click the appropriate variant selector box. And I installed the drivers in the picture below(VCP Drivers, D2XX Drivers). But it still shows that hardware not connected. Could you pls help me?

Hi Mingkang,

The latest version is the 0.5.5. https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/MotorDriversBSM/DRV87xx_DRV8106-Q1EVM-GUI/ver/0.5.5/ this is the link for cloud based GUI. You said, "GUI is also automatically trying to connect after USB plug in --> Result: Hardware not connected.". Yes this will happen first but it will not connect. Then click on the tile for DRV8706S-Q1EVM.

If the USB driver is correctly recognized Windows Device Manager will display as below.

If it is not the latest then the driver download link https://ftdichip.com/drivers/vcp-drivers/.

Hi Murugavel,

I changed the baud rates from 115200 to 9600 and nothing else. Then problem solved. Could you pls explain the reason?

Hi Mingkang,

Could you please share the "About" information from the GUI you used with 9600 baud?. The current version of the GUI for this EVM is 0.5.5 as shown below. This version connects only with 115200 baud as indicated in the GUI settings. It does not connect with 9600 baud setting. I verified this with an DRV8706S-Q1EVM. After successful connection please take a screen shot such that we can take a look at the EVM firmware version as well. Thanks.
