ULC1001-DRV290XEVM: Ring piezo

Part Number: ULC1001-DRV290XEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ULC1001

Tool/software:

Hello.

We are testing to drive a new ring type piezo.

I have some questions.

Q1. The resonance frequency of the piezo is 18kHz. Can it be run on an EVM?

Q2. How do I know how to measure "Min Imp" in the GUI?

Q3. Can I adjust the Amp (puV) to increase the intensity of the piezo?

I would like to get ring piezo simulation results.

  • Hello,

Are you testing the LCS-FL-RNG15 prototype from TI? We have a configuration file to load into the GUI. I attached this file, let me know if you have any issues opening it. This has the optimized water cleaning settings which are at ~30kHz and ~66kHz. To measure / populate "Min Imp" in the GUI a calibration must be run. Increasing the Amp (puV) setting will increase the intensity as this increases the duty cycle, but it is not recommended to increase it above 0.85.

I've added our mechanical expert to this thread to comment on simulation results.

  • Hello,

    Can I purchase LCS-FL-RNG15?

My "Secure resources" tab has not been updated yet.

  • Hello,

LCS-FL-RNG15 has not yet been released, but should within the next few weeks.

Are you driving a custom LCS?

  • Hello,

yes. As Bllow I am testing my self-made Ring Feizo using an EVM board.

    1. Transducer

    2. Glass : ø40 / 1.8T

When you place a glass on the transducer and run WATER MODE, the water shakes but does not remove.
Is the vibration intensity not enough?

Can you help me set up the EVM?

    I have additional questions

    1. Is the PWM output of ULC1001 adjustable?

    2., Where are Freq_Start and Freq_Stop used?
Freq_Start and output frequency are different.

  • Hello,

I believe this thread will be helpful: link. In that thread I go over the calibration process and region parameters.

Essentially you set a frequency range (frequency start and stop) around a low impedance point of the LCS for calibration bursts 2 and 3. If you are only using one frequency range, you can set this range in burst 2 and remove burst 3 from the calibration sequence. These two bursts update the region parameters. The frequencies at the region parameters are then used to update the cleaning bursts (8, 9, 13, 14, etc.).

ULC1001 will drive the start frequency and increment up to the stop frequency.

  • Hello,

What is important to increase the vibration intensity of piezo?
    (Resonant frequency?, Power?, etc.)
Even if you change the start frequency and stop frequency, water cannot be repelled.
    Please help me.

  • Hi,

For best results you want to set the calibration frequencies around a low impedance point so it will update the cleaning bursts to drive around a resonant frequency. If you have already done this, you can increase the amplitude which is the duty cycle, so it will increase the power delivered to the load which can help it to expel water.

Have you done an impedance sweep for your LCS? What frequencies are you driving?
