DRV8962: DRV8962 Parallel Outputs

Part Number: DRV8962

Tool/software:

I plan to parallel OUT3 and OUT4 in my DRV8962 design. Am I correct in assuming that, if I tie IN3 and IN4 high and PWM EN3 and EN4, I won't need to add series inductance to the outputs to minimize shoot-through current since the low-side FETS will never turn on? The load will be resistive only.

  • Hi Michael,

Am I correct in assuming that, if I tie IN3 and IN4 high and PWM EN3 and EN4, I won't need to add series inductance to the outputs to minimize shoot-through current since the low-side FETS will never turn on? The load will be resistive only.

Yes this is correct. Because the load will be resistive the internal current regulation will not work as it requires inductive load. As well as with parallel connection there could be small mismatch between the two Half-Bridges Itrip levels. It would be good practice to avoid this situation either by connecting IPROPIx to GND or if current reading is required set VREF to max. 3.3 V and choose RIPROPI such that VIPROPI is always < 3.3 V for the expected load currents. Thank you.
