MCT8329EVM: Using the Trapezoidal EVM board for FOC

Part Number: MCT8329EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCF8329A,

Tool/software:

I have a MCT8329EVM that I have been using to test trapezoidal drive. Is it possible to re-flash the board to test FOC? After programming will the GUI automatically detect the board as a MCF8329? After testing can I restore the board to be a MCT once again?

  • Hi Jason,

Thanks for reaching out. You can replace the unit on the EVM to MCF8329 and it should work fine given you update the firmware on the EVM's MSP430 MCU.

Refer to this e2e FAQ on how to update the firmware.

The highlighted file below is applicable for MCT8329EVM and the one which is not highlighted is applicable for MCF8329A. Also please note that the GUI for the two devices are different.

    Thanks and regards,
    Sachin S

  • Thanks for your reply. Does the firmware update to the MSP430 also update the MCT8329 turning it into a MCF8329, or do I need to physically swap the part on the EVM?

  • Hi Jason,

The MCF8329 has to be replaced physically. Sachin is out for today and will respond tomorrow if additional questions are there.

    Regards,

    Manu
