Hey

We have developed a Brushless DC (BLDC) motor with 6 poles, 18 slots, and 3 Hall sensors. The motor is driven entirely by hardware, without any microcontroller.

The issue we are facing is that the motor always needs a manual push to start. After the initial push, it runs smoothly and can reach the required rated power.

Could anyone suggest a technique or solution to help us overcome this problem?

Hi Farhan,

The DRV10983 will need some initial tuning over I2C to reliably spin the motor, have you tried configuring the device through I2C?

Hey thanks for you response. I mistakenly put wrong driver in the driver I am using is 6EDL04I06PTXUMA1 and I am using logic IC SN74AS808BDW.

Hey sachin, Thank you for you reply. The problem i am facing is the same start up problem. The boot strap capacitors voltage is around 14 Volts and I checked the logic it proper 6 commutation but whenever I supply power to motor it does'nt spin/start but when I spin it manually then it start spinning smooth. Could you please suggest me anything regarding this.

Hi Farhan,

Initial force commutation like double aligning can help, you need to implement the startup logic to move the rotor initially.

Your motor can have cogging torque also.

Please refer to the MCT8316Z data sheet.
