DRV8350: DRV8350: n_Fault Output Capability

Part Number: DRV8350

Tool/software:

Since different capacitance values lead to different outcomes, it can be inferred that the pin’s performance is unrelated to its sink current capability. Could you please specify the range of capacitance values that this pin can support without affecting its original function? The datasheet does not specify the allowable load capacitance for this pin.

Thanks

  • Hello,

This is not specified in the datasheet because the device expects no extra capacitance on this pin. Capacitance on nFAULT pin is rare in these sorts of systems. This is a logic pin designed with no extra capacitance expected, just like an Enable or SPI pin. Do you have filters on all of these pins as well?

Furthermore, I would like to ask why are you expecting ESD spikes on this pin? Usually ESD protection is utilized on Input/Output pins which may see shocks/spikes from outside the system, such as SHx switching output pins or VMotor supply lines. This pin should not be connected to lines that would usually be subject to these external ESD spikes.

My recommendation is to simply remove all capacitance and filtering from nFAULT, or implement a diode based solution that will not inhibit the functionality of the pin.

    Thank you,

    Joseph
