DRV8462: how to achieve a current of 4A

Part Number: DRV8462

Tool/software:

We first measured the peak to peak value of the A+phase output current through HW mode to be 10.0A;
Using SPI mode, enable the automatic torque function, configure the ATQ_CTRL12 register to 0xFF, and measure the peak to peak value of the A+phase output current to 10.0A.
At present, we want to adjust the effective value of the output to 4.0A. Should we configure the ATQ_CTRL12 register to 0x92

  • Hi Wei,

    Thanks for your post.

    If you haven't already please refer to the following application note and video. If I understood correctly with ATQ_CTRL12 register = 0xFF the peak current is +/- 5 A. To achieve +/- 4 A, the value must be set to 255 * (4/5) = 204 or 0xCC. ATQ_CTRL11 register must be set for the minimum current for the stepper in the system that will allow it to run without stalling with the lowest load torque. There are also several E2E posts and discussion on this subject that may be helpful to you. You can access these via a simple search on e2e.ti.com. Thank you.
