DRV8873: May we know if DRV8873 can use in TEC application?

Part Number: DRV8873
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8832, DRV8412, DRV8702-Q1, DRV8703-Q1

Hi Sir

AS we know, the DRV8832 can use in TEC application,  may we know if DRV8873 also can use in TEC application?

if yes, may we have reference design.

  • Hi Chen,

The DRV8873 can be used in TEC applications assuming the voltage and current requirements of the TEC are within the recommended operating conditions of the DRV8873.

Are there any requirements to operate the TEC such as:
What is the desired PWM input frequency?
What is the min duty cycle?
What is the required change in duty cycle?
    Any other requirements.

    There is no reference design.
  • Hi Sir

Attached is customer use TEC, the customer just request quickly heating and quickly cooling.

May you have suggestion reference circuit? and may we know which EVB (DRV8873SEVM/DRV8873HEVM/DRV8873H-Q1EVM) we can apply to try?

  • Hi Bogey,

Assuming 3.7A RMS, the DRV8873 may not be the optimal choice. At 3.7A RMS, the device power may exceed 4W.

The DRV8412 in parallel mode can support up to 6A continuous. Figure 17 of the datasheet shows the connections.
We have gate driver options also, such as the DRV8702-Q1 and DRV8703-Q1 with independent half bridge control.

We can provide a clearer recommendation if we know more about the requirements.
