DRV8833: Current feedback with INA219

Part Number: DRV8833
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA219

Hi,

we would like to use INA219 with DRV8833  to get  motor current feedback in our application.

We would like to confirm that the  INA219 can be used to measure motor current in DRV8833 i.e by placing the shunt resistor   between the AISEN and the GND.

It would be great if you could let me know your thoughts this cause.

Kind regards,

Thanks,

  • Hi Ala,

Yes, this can be done. But there are some restrictions.

First, please note the GND reference of the DRV8833 will now be higher than the rest of the system. This can have an impact on the Vih inputs of the digital pins.

Second, the voltage across the shunt resistor should be kept below 500mV to avoid activating any internal diodes.

Instead of using the INA219, have you considered using an amplifier to increase the shunt resistor voltage?
