DRV8848EVM: Motor Driver for line follower robot

Part Number: DRV8848EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8848

Hi Team

This question is referenced to the following thread

https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers/f/38/t/805129

We have decided to use DRV8848 for our project so we have few question to clarify

As  per the datasheet circuit diagram nFAULT pin is connected to LED and LED powered by 3.3v through resistor

My question is can we able provide 5v instated of 3.3v

Second Question

AISEN and BISEN pin's are connected to ground  through optional Resistor , What is the disadvantage if we remove the resistor

Please advice

Thanks in advanced

  • Hi PA3040,

As  per the datasheet circuit diagram nFAULT pin is connected to LED and LED powered by 3.3v through resistor

My question is can we able provide 5v instated of 3.3v

Yes, 5V can be used instead of 3.3v. The logic inputs and nFAULT can operate up to 5.5V. Please be sure the mcu can tolerate 5V if you do this.

    Second Question

AISEN and BISEN pin's are connected to ground  through optional Resistor , What is the disadvantage if we remove the resistor

    Please advice

By remove the resistor, it is assume there will be a direct connection from AISEN/BISEN to Ground.

If the assumption is correct, please refer to section 7.3.4. Current regulation will be disabled. Overcurrent protection is still enabled.
Higher currents may be observed at startup and stall, which may require bulk capacitors.
