DRV8323R: Using DRV8323RS in full-bridge mode

Hello,

we developed for our customer DC motor CAN controller based on DRV8703. This controller is designed for 12V or 24V supply voltage. Now, our customer's reuest is nominal voltage 48V (13S32P Li-Ion accu - 55V fully charged) and limitation of DRV8703 is 45V. Do you have some recomendations in propper driver selection? I found DRV8323RS which is intended for BLDC. This part contain three half bridge gate drivers. Can I use only two of them? If yes, how to connect unused pins (GHC,SHC,GLC,SPC and SNC) with respect to propper functionality of internal protection and fault indication bits?

Thanks for posting on the MD forum!

I can comment on the BLDC part and then pass the post to my coworkers in the Brushed and Stepper team for the remainder.

Yes you can use only two of the three.

For an unused half-Bridge, we have the following recommendation for DRV8323:

-GHx and GLx should be floated

-INx should be floated

-SHx should be tied to GND

-SPx and SNx should be tied to GND with option to float in case GND noise is bad

-SOx should be floated

In all cases above, the "x" refers to only the unused phase.

Hi Ladislav,

On the brushed motor side, there are no devices that can operate at 55V.

At 55V fully charged, please consider the DRV835x devices for more margin.
