DRV8836: Body diodes

Part Number: DRV8836

Hi,

We are going to use DRV8836 as the driver in our product. I saw someone has asked if the body diode can handle the reserved current when turning off the motor. You've given a positive answer, but may I ask how much current it can handle? What is the maximum value?

Thanks

Yuqing

  • Yuqing,

The body diode peak current would be higher than the 3.5A maximum OCP threshold. Also, the output current should not be higher than 3.5A.

If a customer application needs the body diode to take care the output current in most of the time and that causes a thermal concern, they can add a Schottky diode in parallel with the internal FETs.
