DRV8308EVM: DRV8308EVM, DRV8306EVM response and settling time

Part Number: DRV8308EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8306EVM, DRV8306

Hi,

We're planning to use DRV8306EVM and DRV8308EVM for evaluation of 3-phase BLDC motor.

We're using DRV8306EVM (or DRV8308EVM) to drive NEMA17, 3-phase BLDC motor. Motor MPN: GM42BLF40-128-SJ-126 (gemsmotor  http://gemsmotor.com/nema-17-square-brushless-dc-motor)

Couple of question  -

1) What is response time of BLDC controller for above EVMs? i.e., Delay between start of motor rotation with regard to motor power supply voltage (VM+, 12.5V DC)  Power-ON

2) Needed peak phase current is 4A. RMS phase current during normal operation is ~1A. What is response time and settling time if phase current surges from 1A to 2.5A due to surge torque requirement?

3) Hall sensor waveform shows 112Hz. Motor rpm (8-pole, 3-phase, star winding) is 1,680 rpm? Speed = (120* frequency / Pole)

Operating condition:

  • Peak transient phase current = 3.5A - 4A
  • Average phase current: 1.5A rms
  • Vcc = 12.56V DC
  • Phase to center Tap resistance = 450mOhm  (0.9 ohm/2 = 0.45ohm, Star Winding connection, 8-pole, 3-phase)
  • BEMF constant, Kt = 51.55 mV/Hz
