DRV8340-Q1: Transient conditions for 60V VM Spec

Hi Team,

Can you please elaborate on the transient overvoltage conditions allowed up to 60V on the DRV8340? I am looking at ISO16750 and trying to understand the timing allowed for this transient. I.e. is it for load dumps up to 60V/Xms? Any specifics would be very helpful.

If you look at Page 8, Footnote 2, the datasheet states that the device can be operated during additional overvoltage events as specified in ISO 16750. Per the standard, the DRV8340-Q1 can support five 65-V pulses of 350ms at intervals of one minute.

Hi Antonio,

On my previous reply, I accidentally referenced the 2010 specification for ISO 16750. The 2012 recommendation for ISO 16750 states that is it recommended for the device to tolerate five 58V pulses of 350ms, but the spec is referenced to the customer's datasheet.

For the DRV8340-Q1, we tested and qualified passing up to 60-V transients to comply with ISO 16750 (2012 version). These transients correspond to device lifetime, meaning any higher transients than 60V or more than five 60-V pulses over the device's lifetime could have a negative impact.

Thanks for the update. Can you please clarify the following comment?: "more than five 60-V pulses over the device's lifetime could have a negative impact". Is it 5 pulses over lifetime, or 5 pulses over a given period of time what would have an impact?
