DRV8313: How to limit the current value with the COMPO pin ?

Part Number: DRV8313
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8811, DRV8813, DRV8881

Hi, I use the DRV8313 on the new project.

Now the torque is about 5KGf.cm.  How can I  reduce the output current , so that the motor rotating torque could lower about 3KGf.cm ???

I found the words form the specification:

I think the uncommitted comparator only can detect the current, it cann't limit the current. If I want to use the current-limiting function, How can I design the drawing??

  • Hi Xianrong,

You are correct. The uncommitted comparator can only detect the current. Once the current increases above the limit, the COMPO output signals the controller. The controller must then take the appropriate action by controlling the inputs of the DRV8313.
  • Hi Rick,
Now I use the three-Phase BLDC Motor, I need an IC that has adjustable current regulation function( Regulate current levels for optimal stepper performance) drive it: Regulate current, 10~38Vin, 1~2A, BLDC, integrated the NMOSFETs is better.
the DRV8811 can't drive BLDC motor, and the max temp is 85'C.
the DRV8313 has not the adjustable current regulation function.
Which part is the suitable ?
  • Hi Xianrong,

You can still use the DRV8313, but you will need to either add an external current shunt amplifier to measure the current or change the comparator COMPN voltage using some type of voltage source. Either method can work.

  • Hi Rick,

What I want is the adjustable current regulation function, the regulate current levels for optimal motor performance.

I find a DRV8313 reference drawing as below,Can it achieve the adjustable current regulation function ??

At the same time, I find the DRV8881, DRV8813 in the ESP, Which one can achieve the adjustable current regulation function ??

  • Hi Xianrong,

The schematic show can achieve adjustable current regulation by monitoring the IDC_SENSE pin with an ADC. Once the desired current is reached the outputs can changed as required to maintain the current.

All of the DRV88xx devices you listed are for brushed motors, not BLDC.
