BQ25703A: Regarding the system pin

Part Number: BQ25703A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25731

Hi Sir/madam,

For the Charger chip BQ25703a is it necessary to have a capacitor at the system pin ,even if we are not using the system pin and can u please suggest a charger ic without this system pin only to charge a  3S configuration battery .

Thank you

  • Hi Vinith,

Thanks for reaching out. BQ25703A delivers power to the load through the system pin so capacitance on VSYS is essential from a design perspective.

It is very hard to suggest a part without knowing your operating conditions (input voltage range and power, output power, etc.). I would recommend searching on ti.com for the part most optimized for your system.

In general, there are 2 types of charger architectures. First one is similar to BQ25703A where there is a MOSFET separating the the battery from the system voltage. On the other hand, there are chargers like BQ25731 where there is no MOSFET between the system voltage and battery voltage.

Based on current available information and that you are looking for a part similar to BQ25703A, I would recommend using BQ25731.

    Thanks,

    Peng
