BQ25730: Need guide for applying Linux driver for BQ25730

Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, there is no sample Linux driver for BQ25730.

In the past, some Linux driver reference code of older chargers were provided to accelerate customer development. However, it should always be the job of the customer to test the code and verify the software design.

Please refer to the BQ25730 register list to understand how to communicate with the charger using I2C. All the information needed for firmware control is available on the datasheet. Our chargers doesn't have that much registers so it shouldn't be that complicated.

Hi Jack,

For how to write a software Linux driver, there should be a variety of open source tutorial online. I also saw some of your conversation on E2E in the past. They can refer to the past Linux drivers on how to write software code for Linux. This should be handled on the customer side.

To understand how the charger works, we have the EVM and the BQStudio GUI so they can evaluate the charger quickly. They have control over the registers on a bit level.

Unfortunately, we do not have written sample Linux drivers targeted for BQ25730 so your customer will have to develop it on their own. However, I do not think that is necessarily a bad thing for them to have more control/understanding over the source code. It will be easier when it comes to software testing as well.
