TPS56C230: Mode resistor values

Part Number: TPS56C230

Hello,

I wonder if I can use 51.1kohm R_M_H and 10kohm R_M_L (thereby, 16.3%*VCC) even though it's not the recommended value in datasheet. Is there any potential issue? Could you also let me know the reason why datasheet specifically recommends the values in table 1?

  • Hi Ella,

The mode selection is implemented by sensing the mode voltage and use it to compare with the internal reference voltage. That could be used to distinguish the mode.

The internal reference is set to be 10% and 20% of Vcc for dividing the mode. The mode resistor is recommended to set the mode voltage to be about 5% and 15% of Vcc. That gives enough margin for the mode resistor accuracy and the reference voltage variation.

I would just advise to follow the recommended resistors in datasheet.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
